I cannot seem to find the MasterFormat Numbers and Titles webpage. Where did it go?
I’ve always gone to MasterFormat.com
It took me to the CSI Website, and with login you can get to all revisions made after 2010, Not sure how to get the entire list unless you already have an edition to start with, Otherwise you would need to purchase the latest edition.
See https://www.csiresources.org/csiredesign/standards/masterformat/mf-sub You must be a member to access this site.
https://www.csiresources.org/standards/masterformat/masterformat-applications-guide
You now have to enter through the application guide.
Please send in your complaints to CSI. I have. I don’t know why we are forced to drill deeper for no reason. No added benefit, just someone at CSI deciding to fix something else that’s not broken.
I went to this web page. Does anyone know: What does CSI mean when they say: This is a legacy version of the Numbers and Titles lookup tool and may not be supported in future versions of MasterFormat.
The new version of this tool can be found at the following link: Numbers and Titles (Nothing shows up). What is going on with CSI MasterFormat?
You can either use the link below or, if you go in the “front door” you now have to reach MF via the Application Guide link (see my previous post).
The legacy version is an outdated copy of MF.
The link they provide should take you to the current MF here:
https://www.csiresources.org/standards/masterformat/mf-numbers-and-titles
The legacy version is the system that was used previously on the website. The new version uses the Crosswalk API. When MasterFormat is revised, only the new version will be updated and the legacy version will likely be removed.
Hi Ron. Thank you for chiming in. I always appreciate your input.
Can you please provide some explanation of what the Crosswalk API specifically does to/for MF and how it affects us as users of this Standard?
Honestly I haven’t had time to delve into it and have no idea what it means or does.
Many thanks!
Ken
Crosswalk provides access to CSI’s classification standards (OmniClass, UniFormat, and MasterFormat) so that the standards can be easily integrated into any software application. Thus, when CSI revises the standard, software developers do not need to revise their applications. The same applies to the MasterFormat tool on the CSI website.
When any CSI classification standard is updated, it only needs to be input once in Crosswalk, and everyone with licensed access will have the most current information in real-time.
Crosswalk can also provide cross-referencing to CSI’s other standards if the application provides that capability. Crosswalk will eventually provide cross-referencing to other classification systems in the industry in the future, such as ASTM’s UNIFORMAT II and the UK’s UniClass.
So… Does this mean we can access Uniformat online the way we access MasterFormat with the Numbers and Titles Tool? That would be nice…
(When I look on the CSI site and click on the “Access with Crosswalk” link, it just directs you to the Crosswalk site. _("/)_/)
(I have the sinking feeling that in the not too distant future, the “free to CSI members” Numbers and Titles tool will be by subscription only. I already pay a lot of money to CSI for the membership, and all the letters after my name. I hope they don’t take the one free thing I consistently use.)
That has not been discussed yet but could be a possibility in the future.
Ron Geren: “That has not been discussed yet but could be a possibility in the future.”
Does that mean accessing Uniformat free and on line via a “Numbers and Titles” type tool will be a possibility in the future? (Yay! Hooray!)
Or does it mean that charging CSI members to access the Numbers and Titles tool will be a possibility in the future? (Boo! Hiss!)
Thanks!
I cannot say for sure, but I doubt CSI would charge members access.
The MasterFormat Tool on the CSI website is free to CSI members, so I would expect a similar UniFormat Tool would be free to CSI members.
I was looking for an updated version of Section format and the CSI site is taking me in circles. Also – does anyone know when the Section format was last updated? I don’t see a date on the cover of the PDF, and if it is the same as last time, I don’t want to buy it again.
It was last updated in 2008. There is a new printing with the current branding and formatting, but the content has not changed since 2008.
Anne Whitacre – SectionFormat is part of the PDPG digital package and the PDF can be downloaded. I realized that a little late after I bought a(nother) version of UniFormat.
The MasterFormat… Oops! I mean the MASTERFORMAT™ Classification System* Numbers and Titles tool seems to be gone again! I went through the various links, and I get a big blank. I have to use the “legacy” version.
I still think eventually they are going to gouge us, I mean, charge us for using it.
(* - This according to the Brand Standards. Don’t want to get in trouble for using MASTERFORMAT™ Classification System incorrectly. )
Nope, it’s still there - https://www.csiresources.org/standards/masterformat/mf-numbers-and-titles as long as you’re still a paid-up member.
After logging in to csiresources.org, instead of having easy access you now have to:
Click on Standards
Click on MasterFormat (screw them)
Click on Applications Guide (members only)
Click on Numbers and Titles.
If any manufacturer did this we would use someone else’s product.
WTF ever happened to www.masterformat.com? That worked just fine thank you. It wasn’t broken. Who fixed it and why?
I received this via email today:
CSI standards at your fingertip
This new tool connects MasterFormat, UniFormat, and OmniClass, offering users the ability to translate classifications between standards, look up numbers and titles, and view related terms, all from Microsoft Word.
Learn more at our upcoming webinar on October 27 at 4 p.m. ET (you’ll need to access your email for a link to register for the session) to see Crosswalk for Microsoft Word in action.
Is this tool free to members? Heck no!
Delving a little deeper, https://www.crosswalk.biz/crosswalk-for-microsoft-word
it doesn’t sound like it’s good deal for members at $495/year.
Gulp!
