Does anyone have experience with, or even second-hand knowledge of, this product?
The other day a project architect in the office sent an e-mail to me about this product. I don’t know if Colin will allow me to post the web site but it is simply the first word in the subject of the thread followed by “.com”. Obviously the web site doesn’t give much information.
There is a phone number but I have tasked the PA with calling to ask for additional information. If I call the person on the other end of the line invariably will ask a question particular to the project that the PA is best able to answer.
What I did gather from the information supplied by the PA (including MSDS) is that this product has a relatively high VOC content. I would think it needs to be applied to a very smooth, i.e. level 5, gypsum board finish as well. I asked the PA to consider the cost (material cost for this product is in the range of ceramic tile) and added inconvenience of installing it versus a magnetic marker board.
Again, if anyone has prior experience with Magnamagic magnetic paint, or has heard about it from a reliable source, please let me know.

I just added them to 09-7700 - Special Wall Surfaces and to 10-1100. While they are a paint, these sections have their closest alternatives.
As an alternative product, Wall Talker’s magnetic product might work.
I used the product on walls for a series of Toyota dealerships, at request of the owner. Since the owner asked for the specific product, I did not research it too much other than to make sure I called out the right product. I don’t know how well it works as a magnetic surface.
Lynn, you are right. I’ve had success with the WallTalkers product on past projects. It seems folks are easily intrigued by that which is new and different. Given the high VOC content of the paint product and the possibility that it may lose its effectiveness after a repaint or two I question whether it has any advantage over the WallTalkers product.
Richard, if any of those dealerships are nearby you might want to make an anonymous visit to see how the magnetic paint is performing. I know I would like to see it “at work.”

I believe Benjamin Moore also makes a magnetic paint for residential use. The homeowners I know who installed it say it requires super strong magnets; anything else just falls off the wall. I would also recommend Walltalkers.
A Cambridge, MA company called IdeaPaint is making a dry-erase whiteboard paint. They have a super toxic version for commercial and a less toxic version for residential use. I haven’t seen it installed yet.
