What is everyone doing about installing vinyl siding over exterior insulation that is over 1". The vinyl institute only provides installation instructions when the exterior shell assembly is 1" or less total. We are dealing with exterior assemblies with 1-2". CertainTeed has provided no help nor any testing data and they do not support the Foam Coalition Association recommendations. Any ideas? Someone else has to have this issue come up due to the new energy code. Thanks
I suggest you contact Progressive Foam Technologies in Beach City, Ohio. The company has good solutions for adding continuous insulation to vinyl cladding, as well as metal, fiber-cement, and wood siding, to meet ASHRAE requirements for CI. They have specs and CAD details to help you get your requirements documented properly.
What is the rest of the assembly, Carla? If you’re installing over wood studs, you might consider Zip System which has continuous insulation, nailable sheathing and air barrier in one product.
The assembly varies…wood, light gage, pre-fabricated infinity panels, etc. It just seems that the siding industry has not yet caught up with the CI issue and are voiding warranties when installed in anything over an 1".
