We have an FM project and need a sprayed insulation in some of the wall areas. The typical low expansion foam that we use does not appear to be FM approved. I’ve tried to do some internet research but must be asking my questions wrong because I’m not getting any good answers. So I am coming to you for your collective wisdom :-).
I’m assuming this is a project requirement because it is insured by an FM entity; otherwise FM would not be needed. FM has various different types of approvals, so you need to start there. FM has a comprehensive listing of all their approved products. FM approvals are also typically based on an ASTM test protocol. What this means in a practical way is that FM engineer on the project may approve a product if it has the underlying ASTM testing they want, but FM has not approved it. If you can get access to the engineer, they can be extremely helpful as to what they’re willing to go with.
Okay, thank you, John. Yes, this project is an FM project and we’ve already done one progress review with them at the end of the DD phase. I’ll check in with the project architect and see what they can find out. Thanks for your input!
