We’ve got a project where metal roof panels with integrated PV’s are being considered. What’s the best way to specify these?
PV’s-- sorry to be so dense-- but power vents?
If so, I’d mount them on curbs or equipment supports, so you can more easily finish the roofing to them-- a common detailing situation.
I’m afraid I suffer from OAS - Over-Acronymization Syndrome, a malady that seems to be spreading.
I should have been more precise - Building-Integrated Photo Voltaic systems - in this case thin-film applied to metal roofing panels.
IDTCAYA-- I don’t think curbs are your answer!
ROTFLMAO
John:
MF2004 has photovoltaic collectors under Section 26 31 00, but then there’s a reference to Section 07 31 00 for solar collector roof shingles. If you look at 07 31 00, a specific spec section identified for “solar collector roof shingles” is not included, it’s just shingles. Based on that, I think you would be fine including the integrated photovoltaic panels as a specific type in your metal roof panel section.
John, I haven’t had a lot of opportunity to spec Building-Integrated Photovoltaics, but when I have, I’ve placed them in the section for the product into which they’ve been integrated. For instance, I placed them in Glazing when they were in laminated glass for custom skylights. I agree with Tracy that you could place yours in the Metal Roof Panels section. Just reference Division 26 for connecting them to the building electrical.
