I’m having an issue on a project where I have a 2-hour floor/ceiling assembly (3.25" lightweight concrete over 3" metal deck) with poke-thru’s in the floor. A poke thru is a recessed, in-floor, flush mounted electrical receptacle, typically used in the center of conference rooms and so forth under tables. The question came up if they need to have an L-rating (Smoke). The mfr says no, and further claims they are not considered “through penetrations” under UL1479, but are only tested to UL263.
My question is this: Does anyone know if there are poke-thru’s that provide an L-rating, or is this truly an industry wide interpretation and there isn’t such a thing out there?
