What has been your experience with QuietRock soundproofing gypsum board products?
excellent product, SOME GC’S CLAIM IT IS EXPENSIVE BUT FOR TOTAL ASSEMBLY COST IT IS NOT, WHEN IT HAS BEEN INSTALLED, I’VE HEARD OF NO PROBLEMS WITH THE INSTALLATION.

How does QuietRock compare to regular GWB on a resilient furring channel?
Ron, read the article in W&C, why would u use a resilient channel - kind of overkill isn’t it…maybe ask the manufacturer directly.
With the UL U465 assembly and added SoundBreak and insulation, the National Gypsum literature says you have an STC rating of 57. Adding resilient channels and insulation to the U419 or u451 assembly the USG literature shows an STC rating of 54.
remember, though, that a lot of sound travels through what is simply bad installation – you still need to seal at top and bottom tracks; do not do electrical boxes back to back and guard against other penetrations that can transmit sound, including door frames. I had thought this product didn’t come in a fire rated version, but apparently that information is outdated now..
A curious thing about tests using resilient channels: none I’ve seen are newer than about thirty years old. Is the design of the resilient channel product used in those tests still even available? No one seems to know. Also, resilient channel is so easy to install wrong (misplaced screws keep it from being resilient) that it probably fails to work as planned much of the time. I try to avoid its use.
