I am looking for potential products to protect exposed CLT members from exterior and interior exposures in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle, WA area). This is a Federal Government project seeking LEED Silver per LEED v4.1.
As a southern Arizona native, we don’t use exposed wood much around here. Thus, my knowledge of wood finishes is limited, and it is nonexistent regarding moist environments.
Thanks.
Ron, Brian Payne here. Sansin is what I specified on two recent projects. They were great to work with. I dont have my notes with me on specific products, but they have what you need. My biggest tip is make sure the first protective coat is shop applied.
Brian:
I had that company on my list from my research, but since this is a fishery research facility, I found the following from a US Forest Service Factsheet: “It appears that IPBC degrades rapidly in soil and aquatic environments. It has low toxicity for birds, but is highly toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates.”
Their SDF products contain IPBC, so I am skeptical that it would work for this project. Also, I could not find any EPDs or HPDs for their products. Do you know if they have those?
