Working on a commercial project and we got a substitution request to use LLumar Solar Control film. Any one spec this or have experience? It comes in a wider roll width which will eliminate a horizontal seam if we use it.
Are they single pane windows or IGU? What was the originally specified?
I have used LLumar before, but it was on older educational projects where the windows were existing and we didn’t replace the glass.
Renovation. IGU. Blackout/Whiteout needed to hide some millwork that is being constructed in front of interior and exterior storefront.
I’ve never heard of problems with Llumar films, however:
- I suggest doing a side-by-side comparison between data sheets of specified vs. submitted.
- Consider doing a mockup on the existing glass with both films and see if you are getting the desired aesthetic.
- If you can contact the original glass fabricator or manufacturer you might want to find out how the film will affect the glass performance including risk of heat-buildup, breakage, glass coating failures, etc.
