ICC TO CREATE COMMERCIAL GREEN BUILDING CODE

ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 189, Standard for the Design of High-Performance, Green Building Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings

Heres an interesting link to a history of the development of Standard 189from the websiteGreen Building Law. Highly recommended reading:

This standard (with consensus by ASHRAE, ILSENA, USBC, and the AIA) folds LEED criteria into a standard for commercial buildings that would develop a model code that provides legal standards for high performance green buildings.

Note: ICC currently has its own green building standard (ICC 700-2008 National Green Building Standard, approved 1/29/09) which is for residential buildings and California has their own Green Building Standards Code (Title 24 Part 11currently voluntary, but mandatory in August 1, 2009).
