Grout not all the way to the top of the tile

The tile installer did not install the epoxy grout to the top of the quarry tile in the kitchen. He left about a 1/16 of an inch of the tile exposed. I am concerned that the edges of the quarry tile will chip off. I looked through the TCA manual and ANSI and did not find any information about installing the mortar to the top of the tile.

Does anyone know where I can find information on tile setting and grout installation?

MasterSpecs refers to the “ANSI A108 Series” of provisions for installation of tile. May be something there.

I would think the health department would have a coniption fit over this. The recess creates a wonderful place for nasty things to grow and would be very hard to clean.

ANSI A108.6-2005, Para. 3.0.7 - “…contoured depression no deeper than 3/64 in. for 1/4 in. wide joint, and 1/16 in. for 3/8 in. wide joint.”

Thanks. I will pass that information along.
