Knauf Insulation is calling their glass fiber insulation “glass mineral wool”. Tecnically sand is a mineral but is sure confusing. I guess sand is also a rock so glass fiber insulation could be called rock wool insulation. ![]()
ASTM C612 Mineral Fiber Block and Board Insulation includes rock, slag or glass fiber products. So “glass mineral fiber” might be slightly better than “glass mineral wool,” but having the word glass there would seem to make it unambiguous.
Then they are not conforming to ASTM C168 “Standard Terminology Relating to Thermal Insulation.”
I agree Ron. While it seems that ASTM C168 would be okay with them calling it mineral fiber, not mineral wool, better terminology would be glass fiber, fiber glass, or fibrous glass.
I like their products. No idea why they would go down this path.
