curtain/darkening shades

From one of my Architects:

**quote:**We are looking for a curtain/ darkening shade to be used in a BSL level 2 laboratory. The shade will be mounted to a track on the ceiling in order to darken a small area around a fluorescent microscope. The area doesn’t need to be entirely blacked-out, but dark enough to enable users to use the microscope. Our client would like a product that resists bacterial growth, doesn’t collect dust, nor promote dust, and can be wiped down with a cleaning solution that will be a diluted mix of ethanol and water.

Any ideas?

I know most of the roller shade people make products that have been tested for anti-microbial properties. I would however check with them on the proposed cleaning solution.

BSL 2 shouldn’t have any restrictions so it really comes down to the blackout fabric. As Richard suggested, a call to the manufacturer should confirm.

At BSL 3 facilities we’ve resorted to window units with integral shades or blinds. Guess that’s not a bad way to go though it adds cost.
