Sorry I didn’t look at this earlier. Mechanically distressed stainless steel usually shuts up designers and keeps technical folks reasonably happy. There’s all kinds of options. The designer types can spend weeks salivating over their counter designs and still be able to clean it up nicely. (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)
