I am working on a project where we are adding “pre-engineered” aluminum stairs and ramps to access existing classrooms. I am trying to establish an appropriate MasterFormat section, and there is a Division 05 Section for metal ramps, but it seems to me that this should either go in Division 13 or (since it is outside) in Division 32.
Also does anyone have any sources they could recommend for such systems?

Looking for an all aluminum “system” that will include handrails and guards. This is for a school to access temporary classroom buildings.
05 50 00 Metal Fabrications could be for pre-engineered anything–there is nothing in the descriptions that restrict it to custom or site-fabricated systems.
05 51 36 is titled “Metal Walkways” and indicates it includes ramps–there is even a Level 4 number (05 51 36.16) that is titled “Metal Ramps.”
I don’t think this has to be a site issue just because it is outside. For example, exterior stairways are exterior, but we include them in the Facility Construction Subgroup of MasterFormat and not the Site and Infrastructure Subgroup.

“Temporary” buildings? Yes, but what I learned during my time at the University of Hawaii is that there isn’t anything quite so permanent as a temporary building .
Same thing at U Minnesota. When I started there in 1966, there were several wood buildings, most of which were identical to the barracks I lived in when I was playing Army. There were two styles: four were H-shaped, 16 were rectangular. All were built in 1947, which explains the similarity to barracks. I’m not sure, but I believe the last one was razed in 1973 to make way for an underground bookstore. Kinda stretches the definition of temporary!
Just prior to that, the influx of soldiers taking advantage of the GI Bill increased the need for student housing, and many universities used quonset huts for student housing.
Notice I placed the word “temporary” in quotes. We would seldom, if ever have this product on a project but I would like to know if anyone else has had experience with the Upside Omni Step.
